🚫 The Root of AI Hallucinations: Why Poor Harmonization Ruins Agentforce (and How to Fix It)
As an Agentforce Champion, the number one question I get is: "Shruthi, why is my AI Agent giving confident but completely wrong answers?"
Most people blame the LLM. But the truth? The problem isn't the AI; it’s your data mapping. In Salesforce Data Cloud, Harmonization is the process of mapping raw data to the Cloud Information Model (CIM). If your mapping is "dirty" or inconsistent, your AI will hallucinate. Today, I’m showing you how to use Calculated Insights (CI) to bridge this gap and provide your Agents with a "Single Source of Truth."
1. The "Mapping Trap": How Hallucinations Start
Imagine you have customer data coming from two sources:
Source A (Web):
Status = "Inactive"Source B (Retail):
Status = "Frequent_Shopper"
If you don't harmonize these correctly, the AI sees two conflicting identities. When an Agent is asked, "Is this a loyal customer?", it might flip a coin and say "No," even though they just spent $2,000 in-store yesterday. That is a data-driven hallucination.
2. The Solution: Calculated Insights (CI) as an "AI Filter"
To fix this, we don't just map data; we refine it. I use Calculated Insights to create a "Trust Layer" before the Agent ever sees the data.
Real-World Use Case: The "Propensity to Buy" Score Instead of letting the AI guess a customer's value based on raw transaction logs (which might be messy), I build a Calculated Insight that aggregates total spend across all DMOs (Data Model Objects) over the last 90 days.
The Logic: If
Total_Spend__c > 5000ANDLast_Interaction__c < 30 days, thenLTV_Status = 'Premier'.The Result: When Agentforce looks at the Unified Profile, it doesn't see raw, confusing data points. It sees a clear, calculated label: Premier.
No guessing = No hallucinations.
3. Step-by-Step Implementation
Map to the CIM: Ensure your DMOs are correctly linked (e.g., Individual to Contact Point Email).
Build the CI: Write your SQL or use the Builder to create the Insight.
Data Actions: Trigger a Data Cloud Flow (check out my Day 4 post on this!) to update the CRM record with this "Truth."
🧠 Codeforce Knowledge Check: The Hallucination Quiz
1. What is the primary cause of AI hallucinations in Data Cloud?
A) The AI is too smart.
B) Inconsistent mapping during Harmonization.
C) Not enough storage space.
2. How do Calculated Insights help reduce errors?
A) They delete old data.
B) They provide pre-calculated, verified metrics for the AI to reference.
C) They make the AI run faster.
